Today, Wednesday 17 June 2026, Build One South Africa (BOSA) Leader, Dr Mmusi Maimane MP, announced Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster MP as the party’s candidate for Mayor of Johannesburg. Nobuntu will lead BOSA’s campaign to provide Johannesburg residents with principled and capable leadership focused on building a city that works.
“Joburg’s future cannot be defined solely by fixing what is broken. That is the minimum requirement of leadership. Our ambition must be greater.” Said Hlazo-Webster
“We must build a city that not only works, but a city that leads; a city that attracts investment, creates jobs, delivers opportunity, and gives possibility to every resident. “
Hlazo-Webster added: “The question is not simply how we repair Johannesburg, but how we realise everything Johannesburg can become: A city of possibility. “
The six pledges made to the people of Johannesburg are as follows:
- Build a Skills-Led City Government
Within the first 100 days, establish a Special Business Advisory Council comprising leaders in business, finance, technology, logistics and entrepreneurship. The council will provide direct input into city decision-making, identify barriers to investment, and help position Johannesburg as South Africa’s premier destination for business growth and job creation.
- Streamline and Integrate City Government
End the fragmentation of municipal governance by progressively integrating municipal entities into a more accountable and efficient city administration. This includes reforming the relationship between entities such as City Power, Johannesburg Water, Pikitup, the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Johannesburg Development Agency, Johannesburg Property Company, Johannesburg Social Housing Company and Metrobus to create a single, responsive city government focused on service delivery.
- Ignite Economic Growth Through Township Enterprise
Unlock the full potential of Johannesburg’s township economy by supporting the formalisation and expansion of township businesses. This includes improving access to finance, integrating township enterprises into major supply chains, and establishing Township Special Economic Zones to attract investment, stimulate entrepreneurship and create jobs where they are needed most.
- Make Johannesburg Africa’s Logistics Capital
Drive investment and trade by expanding and modernising City Deep as Africa’s leading inland port and logistics hub. The city will pursue a Special Economic Zone-style development model around freight and logistics infrastructure to attract investment, strengthen supply chains and create thousands of new employment opportunities.
- Restore Financial Integrity and Root Out Corruption
Implement a comprehensive financial recovery programme focused on fixing billing systems, improving revenue collection, reducing waste and financial leakage, and ensuring every rand collected is used to improve services. A zero-tolerance approach to corruption will be enforced throughout the administration.
- Build a safe Johannesburg
Within the first 100 days, establish a City Safety Coordination Centre to integrate law enforcement, infrastructure security and technology-driven crime prevention. The centre will coordinate the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, SAPS liaison structures, Metrobus security, and the protection of critical infrastructure including water facilities, electricity substations, depots and other strategic assets, supported by real-time CCTV and data monitoring systems.
Candidate Biography
Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster is a serving Member of Parliament (MP), co-founder and Deputy Leader of BOSA, as well as founder of the SA Women’s Commission, which assembles women from all walks of life to collaborate in contributing to change in South Africa.
A respected business leader in the business consulting and media industries, Ms. Hlazo-Webster has led numerous development and advocacy organisations including the Businesswomen’s Association of SA as Chairperson, the International Women’s Forum as President of its youth chapter and the KZN Youth Chamber of Commerce as Regional Chair and as Provincial Secretary-General.
Nobuntu is an alumnus of Future-Elect, the United States IVLP, and an International Women’s Forum fellow. She has been recognised with numerous accolades from the Businesswomen’s Association of SA and the Department of Economic Development – to name a few.
Nobuntu holds a BPhil Honours degree and several postgraduate business qualifications. She sits on various boards and is involved in numerous community initiatives. She has been married to her husband Ayanda Webster since 2007, and they have two sons.
