Build One South Africa (BOSA) today unveiled two new local government election candidates in the historic setting of Vilakazi Street, marking what the party described as a defining step in the emergence of a “new era of politics” undergirded in accountability and service delivery.
Ziyeka Sisulu, grandson of Walter and Albertina Sisulu, and Thembela Mandela, great-grandchild of former President Nelson Mandela, were welcomed as part of BOSA’s expanding candidate slate, reflecting the party’s effort to bring together leaders from diverse backgrounds united by a commitment to building South Africa’s municipalities.
The two individuals who have applied to stand as candidates for wards in the City of Johannesburg in the upcoming local government elections.
BOSA emphasised that while both candidates carry surnames deeply embedded in South Africa’s liberation history, their inclusion is not about heritage alone. It is about responsibility in the present – the responsibility to restore collapsing local government and rebuilding public trust in public representatives.
BOSA added that the unveiling in Vilakazi Street was deliberate and symbolic. A sanguine reminder that the struggle for freedom must now be matched by a struggle for functional governance and an economy that works for all South Africans.
The party concluded that the inclusion of the Sisulu and Mandela descendants reflects a growing convergence of legacy and renewal, where history can and must inform the future
