BOSA mourns the tragic and untimely passing of Gugulethu ward candidate Leon Ngcikwe

Build One South Africa (BOSA) is devastated by the tragic and untimely passing of our ward candidate in Gugulethu, Cape Town, Mr Leon Ngcikwe.

According to information available to us, Leon was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, 20 June 2026, after dropping off activists following campaign and voter registration activities in the community he so passionately served.

Leon was a dedicated community leader and a committed activist who believed deeply in building a safer, more prosperous future for the people of his community. He embodied BOSA’s values of service and active citizenship, and his loss will be felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Leon’s family, friends, loved ones, fellow activists, and the broader Gugulethu community during this unimaginably difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences and stand ready to support them in the days and weeks ahead.

South Africa cannot continue to normalise violence and lawlessness. Every day, communities across our country are torn apart by violent crime, leaving families shattered and neighbourhoods living in fear. Leon’s death is a painful reminder of the devastating human cost of a crime crisis that has been allowed to spiral out of control.

BOSA unequivocally condemns this senseless act of violence and calls on law enforcement authorities to conduct a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

As we mourn Leon’s passing, we also honour his commitment to serving others. His dedication to his community and belief in a better South Africa will not be forgotten.May his soul rest in peace.
