Build One South Africa (BOSA) welcomes the decision by Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, to dismiss Gauteng Gambling Board CEO Karabo Thuladu Mbele and suspend CFO Oscar Maripane.
This decision vindicates the actions taken by BOSA MPL, Ayanda Allie, and confirms that the serious allegations raised by the party warranted urgent intervention and accountability.
On Friday last week, Ms Allie laid criminal charges against Ms Mbele following allegations of fraud, corruption, abuse of office, and conflicts of interest linked to the administration of the Gauteng Gambling Board.
We thank the whistleblowers who came forward with information and documentation that helped expose the alleged wrongdoing and made this action necessary. Their courage in speaking out in the public interest must be commended and protected.
The developments now give further impetus to the criminal charges already laid and strengthen the need for a full criminal investigation into the matter. BOSA now calls on the South African Police Service and the Hawks to move swiftly and decisively to investigate the allegations and ensure that justice is served without fear, favour or delay.
South Africans are tired of corruption allegations being met with internal processes only, while criminal accountability is delayed or avoided altogether. Those entrusted with public resources must be held fully accountable where wrongdoing is found.
BOSA remains committed to exposing corruption, protecting whistleblowers, and ensuring clean governance across all spheres of government.
