Build One South Africa (BOSA) confirms that its Leader, Dr Mmusi Maimane MP, will represent the party on Parliament’s Impeachment Committee which will be established in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution.
The Committee follows the recent Constitutional Court judgment – which revived impeachment proceedings linked to the Phala Phala matter – and directed Parliament to proceed with the establishment of the committee to consider whether to institute impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza, has since confirmed that the 31-member committee will include representation from all 16 parties in the National Assembly, with BOSA allocated one seat.
Dr Maimane brings significant institutional memory and parliamentary experience to the process. More than a decade ago, he served on Parliament’s Nkandla Ad Hoc Committee, which investigated former President Jacob Zuma following the Public Protector’s findings on the misuse of public funds at his private residence.
This Impeachment Committee carries immense constitutional responsibility. Its work cannot become a numbers game designed to shield the President from accountability. South Africans demand a process that is transparent, evidence-based and firmly grounded in the rule of law.
BOSA’s participation will be guided by the principle of accountability. As a party founded on ethical leadership and constitutionalism, BOSA will approach the committee’s work constructively and without fear or favour.
