Build One South Africa (BOSA) has formally requested that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Thoko Didiza, facilitate a moment of silence ahead of tonight’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) to honour the fourteen South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers who have tragically lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
“These brave citizens made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country and the pursuit of peace on the African continent,” said Mmusi Maimane MP, BOSA Leader. “A moment in which the country’s attention is focused on Parliament ahead of the SONA could not be a more fitting time to honour their sacrifice.
BOSA has called on Speaker Didiza to ensure that Parliament observes this tribute at the beginning of tonight’s proceedings. “A moment of silence will not only serve as a mark of national respect but will also provide comfort to the families and colleagues of the fallen soldiers during this difficult time,” Maimane added.
BOSA urges all Members of Parliament to support this initiative in honouring those who have given their lives in the line of duty
