BOSA calls on President Ramaphosa to establish an SIU investigation following explosive revelations by General Mkhwanazi

Build One South Africa (BOSA) is disturbed by the string of weighty revelations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, at his press conference today.

Of particular concern is General Mkhwanazi’s claim that the task team appointed to investigate police killings was deliberately sabotaged from within the South African Police Service (SAPS). If true, this fundamentally undermines the integrity of our criminal justice institutions and threatens public safety.

His allegations implicate senior police officials, prosecutors, judges, Members of Parliament, and members of the executive in acts that sabotage law enforcement and enable political killings.

These are the symptoms of a state in capture crisis, where criminal syndicates and corrupt politicians allegedly operate with impunity.

BOSA therefore demands the following immediate actions:

  1. President Cyril Ramaphosa must, within 30 days, establish a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probe with a broad mandate to investigate the full extent of these allegations, including all individuals implicated.
  2. Those named or implicated must be suspended immediately from their roles. It cannot be that politically compromised individuals remain in positions of power while decisions are made that affect ongoing investigations and prosecutions.
  3. Parliament must urgently summon General Mkhwanazi, the Minister of Police, the National Police Commissioner, and other relevant officials to appear before the Portfolio Committee on Police.

Finally, the Chairperson of Parliament’s Appropriations Committee, Mmusi Maimane MP, will formally request a report from National Treasury on the funding of this task team probing political killings, to ascertain the amount allocated, spent, and whether public funds are in jeopardy and/or being used to further nefarious political ends.

The Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, can no longer remain silent or offer vague reassurances. South Africans deserve to know what is being done to root out this corruption and protect the public from the consequences of a captured state.

BOSA will pursue every legal avenue to ensure accountability, transparency, and justice.
