BOSA welcomes the Minister of Justice’s decision to on publicize the list of convicted sexual offenders and GBV perpetrators

Build One South Africa (BOSA) welcomes the announcement by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, regarding the forthcoming release of a list of convicted sexual offenders and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) perpetrators by the end of February. This crucial step marks a significant victory in our collective fight against sexual violence and abuse.

For over two years, BOSA has been actively campaigning for the National Register for Sexual Offenders (NRSO) to be made public. Through our petition, which has garnered nearly 20,000 signatures, we have consistently advocated for the transparency needed to better protect our communities.’

Today, we celebrate the government’s commitment to addressing this issue with greater accountability.

Making the NRSO public will undoubtedly be a major deterrent for potential offenders, ensuring that those who violate the rights and dignity of others are no longer allowed to hide in the shadows.

We must know who the offenders are – those who roam our streets, enter our workplaces, and infiltrate our homes, often putting our children at risk. By exposing their names and faces, we will enhance public awareness and safety.

Increased transparency will also strengthen community vigilance, making it easier for individuals and organizations to take a stand and report instances of abuse. This initiative is a critical tool in the ongoing battle against sexual abuse and GBV.

BOSA stands ready to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to continue our efforts towards eradicating sexual violence and protecting the most vulnerable members of society. We remain committed to holding perpetrators accountable, ensuring justice for victims, and creating a safer South Africa for all.
